Every year, throughout the world, politicians begin appearing on television screens and in the newspapers like a swarm of excited locusts, posing with babies and talking a-mile-a-minute about why people should be entrusting them with their precious votes and not their unreliable opponents. I am, of course, talking about election time. No matter where you live, when an election is called you’re likely to be bombarded with a never-ending steam of political messages and colourful advertising until your eyes and ears bleed. It’s like that weird relative who turns up on your doorstep unexpectedly and it takes you a few weeks to finally get rid of them. (more…)
Storm Trooper Attacks Australia
Driving home the other day, we were tipped off that we would witness a being from another planet. Excitedly I got my friend to film this epic encounter, but dissapointingly my friend turned out to be an incompetent fool with no concept of technology. Regardless, I thought I would share this joyous occassion with all my readers.
The being turns out to be none other than a loyal servant of the Dark Lord (Lord Vader), a strom trooper who has lost his way, and has obviously not watched the final movie of the series. Just as I was about to end this fool’s life with a wave of my light sabre, embarrisingly I realised this was a mission of charity and not conquest.
Turns out the guy in the suit is 20 year old Paul Jacob French, embarking on a walk from perth to sydney, dressed as a storm trooper of course. He is trying to raise $100,000 for the starlight foundation.
This story is so interesting for so many reasons, above all Mark’s charity, but consider this:
- Perth to Sydney is 3300km (2051 miles) in a straight line, or over 5000km (3125miles) by his route.
- His Storm Trooper suit weighs 15kg and cost him $1,200
- He has lost 12kg from the journey
- He pushes a cart weighing 70kg that holds his supplies, swag and camping gear
- He has walked through the wettest winter in 60 years, including hail and flash floods
- He is a member of the 501st legion, a group of nerds who dress up for charity basically
- He has been walking since July 2011 or 270+ days.
I have nothing but respect for Paul and I implore everyone to give the guy a donation. You can make your donation at http://www.everydayhero.com.au/hero_pages/view_posts/troopertrek.
Pizza at the push of a button (Literally)
Don’t you hate ringing up the pizza company to plpace an order. And going online or using an app on your smartphone are far to difficult as well don’t you think. Well worry no more, as I have found some crazy news about a fridge magnet that will order your favorite pizza simply by pressing the button. (Warning: Those of you who are inclined to ingest too many calories and find it difficult to ignore craving, please read no further). From Digital Journal:
Red Tomato Pizza in Dubai has just kicked it up another notch, simplifying the convenience factor even further, making ordering take-out food practically effortless.
According to Mashable, “impulse eaters beware”, as this new device truly makes ordering a pizza as easy as a tap of the finger.
The magnet, called the VIP Fridge Magnet, is a pizza box shaped magnet and has a direct ‘line’ to the pizzeria. All a customer has to do is push the button, this triggers a connection to the Internet via Bluetooth on a smartphone. Shortly afterward, Red Tomato Pizza sends a confirmation text and proceeds to deliver.
CNET reports that pizza lovers can customize the default pizza order by pressing the button and ordering a different kind of pizza pie.
Its only a matter of time before your fridge is covered with purchasing magnets…

58-0 Soccer Scoreline (No not on the xbox)
I can’t fathom how this is possible, considering how long a game would take to restart after each goal, but nonetheless the record books have been re-written. From news.com.au…
AN amateur English soccer team scored 58 goals in a single game without reply to hand out the biggest ever defeat in the country’s history.
Wheel Power FC netted 20 times in the first half before adding 38 more goals in the second half against local rival Nova 2010 FC to complete the 58-0 league win in the southwestern town of Torquay, surpassing the previous 55-0 record.
Power’s Robbie Bowker grabbed 18 goals, the equivalent of six hat-tricks, while brother Stuart Bowker also made it into double figures with 10 strikes. In total, 10 players made in onto the historic scoresheet.
The free-scoring display came despite the team suffering a humiliating 8-0 loss in the cup in its previous game, a result that now looks more like a narrow defeat.
The 58-0 demolition dwarfs the 13-0 record win in the English professional game, though far higher scores have been recorded in leagues around the world.
Australia set a new standard at international level in 2001 with a 31-0 defeat of American Samoa. Madagascan team AS Adema claimed a 149-0 win a year later, though the achievement was undermined drastically by all 149 goals being scored by the opposition in protest at a refereeing decision.
Crab Vs Bird – Crab Amputates His Own Arm
Ah the animal kingdom; beautiful, majestic and sometimes even crazy. I found this popular clip and just had to share it, before it becomes Pixars next motion flick. A quick run-down, a number of crabs raid a booby birds nest (brave soldiers), our intrepid hero gets seperated from his compatriots, and comes under heavy attack from the much larger birds. Unable to win the fight, and not willing to succumb the Crab amputates his own claw to make his getaway. Check out the video Below…
Just to relieve some worried souls, Crabs claws regenrates he will be raiding nest in no time.
Debt Mountain
Whats crazier in the world than politics, human stupidity combined with ignorance and greed and you get this result.
The crazy part is, that you have to stop going into debt to pay off the debt, and with greater debt you spend a larger proportion of income on simply servicing the debt. So in good news, the next federal budget is expected to be another 2 trillion dollar deficit.
